We’ve listed below some useful information that we hope may help you plan your trip to Norfolk. If there is something else, just ask!

Meet the locals…

Roaming the gardens at Glebe Farm is Bruce, a chirpy Jack Russell. Bruce is always happy to have a play-mate – another dog to chase, or a friend to throw a frisbee is always welcome.

Watch Bruce in action on You Tube!

There are masses of garden for adventures and games – no area is “out of bounds” except for the private garden to the main house, but we ask visitors to respect the property, grounds and other’s privacy, and to ensure children are supervised.

Farm Tours

Guests staying at Glebe Farm Holiday Cottages get to have their own private tour of our farm, the cows and our  milking robot. To book, simply call the office on 01603 736569 or ask us when you are here!

Food shopping, supermarkets and supermarket deliveries

For good quality locally-sourced food, try Farm to Fork at Horstead, which also stocks our own Nortons Dairy milk, cream, butter and cheese.

For the morning paper you can try the Londis at Coltishall (1 mile) or Buxton stores (1.5 miles). There’s a convenient Coop at Spixworth (1 mile), a slightly bigger Morrisons at Old Catton (3 miles), a small Tesco at Aylsham (5 miles) and a huge 24 hour Tesco at Sprowston (about 4 miles away).

There are several local supermarkets who deliver to the cottages, including Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco.

Eating In

Chips:

There are excellent fish and chip shops at Coltishall, Buxton and Spixworth.

Take-aways:

Coltishall has a Chinese takeaway, and an Indian and Thai restaurants and takeaways; Spixworth has a Chinese; Wroxham has a larger selection including a good Thai restaurant.

Eating Out

Pubs:

The local Rose & Crown in Frettenham is good for beer and crisps, but for food you need not go much further: Coltishall has multiple pubs – Recruiting Sargeant (in Horstead) for food and the Kings Head for food nearer the river are the highlights. Also recommended by the locals is the Goat at Skeyton, the Adam & Eve in Norwich, the Plough at Marsham…. and plenty more besides. Make sure you tell us your favourite so we can pass the message on!

Local eateries:

Try Wroxham Barns for great value, fresh lunches and A Piece of Cake in Coltishall (nr the garage) is a really good for snacks and cakes. The Galley @ Horning features excellent food surrounded by local artwork and upmarket gift shopping.

Petrol

The nearest filling station is at Coltishall Island (1 mile). The garage also sells newspapers and magazines. The cheapest fuel locally is usually at one of the big supermarkets on the outskirts of Norwich – Asda at Hellesdon (5 miles) or Tescos at Sprowston (4 miles) are the closest. Filling stations towards the coast are fewer and farther between, but can be found at most main towns.

Buses

Information on regular bus services to Norwich and North Walsham can be found here. The nearest bus stop in Frettenham is 10 minutes walk along the lane – either by the pub or in the village. A trip to Norwich takes 30 minutes, and services depart every 2 hours roughly. A more frequent service is available from Coltishall (park near the Recruiting Sargeant) or the Airport park and ride.
